Miss Perception

So there I am in line at the movie theatre in Beaverton, Oregon.  The sign at the box office telling what movies are showing is handwritten because the theatre is one of the very few remaining independently owned theatres.  The place is low budget and low tech.  So on the handwritten sign it says “No one under 21 admitted.”  And I’m thinking, “No one under 21 admitted to see Walk the Line?  What kind of conservative Christians do we have here?  Wow!”  I plunked down my whopping $3.75 for the film and headed for the concession stand.  It’s looking good–they have popcorn, they have pizza.  They have wine and beer!  Ah ha!  That’s why the no one under 21…duh.  Urban Oregon = a pretty nice civilization.  I was able to sip Deschutes Brewing Company’s Mirror Pond Pale Ale while watching Joaquin and Reese be Johnny and June.

Reese was good, but I would have given the Oscar to Felicity Huffman or Dame Judy.  The latter gives quite a compelling performance in Mrs. Henderson Presents…really lights up the screen.  And oh my, her costumes were delicious.

Back to civilization: Why isn’t there a movie theatre in Los Angeles that serves wine and beer?  Or is there and I just don’t know about it?
